The basic 'finding'/'discovery' was accomplished in 1975. By 1980 it was clear to the propounder (A Nagraj Sharma) that this was something useful for the human race. The 'Vyawhar Darshan' (Awakening in Human Behavior) book was the first to be written. This was followed by the writing of the remaining books, the last of which was published in Jan 2008 (Human Constitution) A number of people from different backgrounds have come in touch with Jeevan Vidya since then and are sincerely involved in understanding, living and sharing this work.
Other Initiatives: National Convention on Jeevan Vidya at IIT Delhi - 2007 | Convention on Jeevan Vidya at NIT Raipur: 2006 | Work in Bilaspur Jail Workshops or shivirs Jeevan Vidya shivirs have been held since the past 20 years. These are in English and Hindi. Efforts continue to represent the work in the 7 days in a manner that enables people to understand and get a view of the scope of the proposal. These are called introduction or parichay shivirs. In addition to this, Adhyayan or Study shivirs are held for those that have a basic overview of the work and wish to get into further details of understanding. These are held at various locations. Over the past 2 decades, more than 10,000 people have attended these workshops. Information regarding the shivirs is spread via word of mouth. The objective of these workshops is to enable people to understand the harmony in existence, that existence is co-existence. The shivirs are part of the 'lok shiksha yojana' or 'public education program'. Click here for further details on the workshops. Translation: The basic work is currently in Hindi. Work has begun to take this literature into English since Dec 2007. The nature of the work is such that language presents some inherent difficulties. The words being used have to be defined anew, since they carry baggage's of the past ideologies and usages. A draft copy of the translation of Vikalp (The Alternative) and Jeevan Vidya Ek Parichay (Jeevan Vidya a Primer) are available here. Further details on the translation are available with Rakesh Gupta, Bangalore ( rakeshg2715@gmail.com Translation is also underway in Marathi. Viklalp is now available in Marathi. You can download these copies here. For further details, contact Suvarana Yogesh at: , Phone: 09303040188 Syllabus: Education on the basis of this work begins even before a child can learn to speak. Children pick up cues and information from the environment since when they are in the mothers womb. Every child is born with the desire to know the truth and with expectation of justice. It becomes our responsibility to ensure this. Work on creating a syllabus on the basis of Jeevan Vidya is currently under way. While many of the available subjects would need to be re-written in this light, we are currently working on creating education material focused on understanding Madhyasth Darshan. The Class 1 to 5 syllabus and textbooks created for the State Govt of Chattisgarh in Hindi are available here . For further details, contact Shriram Narasimhan (zshriram@yahoo.com) , Phone: 09823025028. Work on ensuring the right understanding in students is called Shiksha Sanskaar Yojana. (Program for education and right values) In Production/Energy: Experiments in natural and zero input farming to ensure healthy production of the physical requirements of human beings in harmony with nature are underway at Kanpur, Raipur & Amarkantak. Further details are available in the center updates section. The results are very encouraging, with yields matching or exceeding yields using fertilizer and pesticide methods. Details on experiments using flowing water to generate electricity is available with kumar Sambhav, kanpur (kumarms3@yahoo.com), Phone: 09935602778 Abhyudaya Sansthan (Centre for Awakening) has been working since the past 5 years. They are located at village Achhoti, about 30 kms from Raipur city in Chattisgarh State, India. There is joint ownership of about 40 acres of land. In Education The Centre has facilities for accommodating upto 60 people for the purposes of conducting workshops (shivirs). There is a 7 day shivir held almost every month. The team here has worked extensively with the Government. There has been a lot of work with the National Institute of Technology, Raipur (NIT). NIT now has a cell on Madhyasth Darshan and it is taught as an optional credit course. Most recently, the State Govt approved a syllabus based on Jeevan Vidya for classes 1 to 5. The books would be used as an accompanying reader for the students. The syllabus can be downloaded here Abhyuday sansthan serves as a nodal centre for all the activities conducted in this region. More than 40 families from Raipur are involved in this effort. Other Areas The centre grows its own food: wheat, rice, ugarcane, pulses, vegetables, etc are grown at the centre and distributed to families in Raipur. The centre also grows wheat grass and has a dairy with 100 + animals. The animals are of various Indian breeds (not mixed/jersey). There are about 4 families living on campus full time. The campus also has its own naturopathy clinic. The centre works closely with the villages around it - in the area of value education and health. An outlet by name 'Samriddhi' has been established in Raipur. The objective of having the outlet is to enable families to get healthy, natural food and also to establish a system of exchange that is free of profit and exploitation. The team consisting of Anjani, Som, Manjit, Kalpesh, BR Agarwal, Rajanji and their families have been working tirelessly to establish this understanding and ensure its continuity in tradition. The work in Kanpur has been going on since 10+ years. Manviya Shiksha Sanskar Sansthan or MS3 (Center for Right Human Values & Education) is located in the village of Mandhana, about 12 kms from the city center and 7 kms from IIT Kanpur. In Education Shivirs are regularly held at the MS3 campus as well as at various places in the city. The shivirs are of both residential type and day-shivirs as well as evening shivirs. More than 100 families from Kanpur are now actively associated. Work has also been going on at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT) since the past few years. This includes regular shivirs for the students and faculty. A number of students from IIT are now actively involved in the activities of MS3 : including conducting shivirs & organizing them. Interest at IIT has been steadily increasing over the past few years as people realize the ill effects of the current mode of education: including suicides amongst the students and the lack of solutions in various approaches. The team also works in the villages around Mandhana where shivirs are regularly organized. Shivirs in the villages are normally conducted in the evenings. The team at Kanpur is also actively engaged in writing articles and creation of the syllabus. Other Activities Zero Input farming by the 'Palekar' method is being practiced at a place called Parihar, about 20 kms from Kanpur by the river Ganga. A wide variety of fruit and grains are grown here in hundreds of kilos and this is distributed to families involved with Vidya. The idea is to produce healthy food and exchange it with people with whom there is a relationship, which makes it free of the profit motive and exploitation. A few students from IIT Kanpur are working on a prototype to generate electricity from the flowing power of the Ganges. The Kanpur team consists of Shyam, Abhishek, Atul, Ganesh Bagariaji, Archanaji, Gudda Bhai, Billu and others. This attempt started in mid 2008 and is currently in progress. For details, contact Praveen Singh: pravsing@gmail.com and Atishi at atishi@gmail.com The work in Hyderabad started at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) a leading centre for computer education in the state of Andhra Pradesh. IIIT is one of the leading places for research in language processing technology. The first shivir was done in IIIT in the year 2003 followed by one in 2004. By 2005, many students, faculty and the director of the institute had done the shivir. Finding this to be the crucial element they felt was missing in todays education, IIIT made the 7 day workshop of Jeevan Vidya a compulsory credit course for the first year students. More than 600 students and 200 people from all over the country have done shivirs in IIIT since then. Notable has been the involvement of some the faculty and the director in this effort. One of the faculty members, Pradeep Ramancharla, has started conducting the shivirs himself in the Telugu language for the students, faculty and support staff - an effort that has had very encouraging feedback. A number of students that have passed out of the institute keep returning to attend the shivirs and further their understanding. The results of Jeevan Vidya on campus have been many. Reduced incidents and a complete stop of ragging, reduction in the use of foul language and loose talk, an improvement in interpersonal relationship within the student body and with faculty, increased awareness and resonsibility towards the environment, etc have been some of the improvements. For details, contact: shriram Narasimhan at zshriram@yahoo.com , phone: 09823025028 National Convention on value education through Jeevan Vidya at IIT Delhi: was inaugurated by the then President of India, Abdul Kalam. The report is available for download here. The discussions over 3 days revolved around the status of education today, its problems and the possible solutions via Jeevan Vidya. Speakers and those attending included the Directors of IIT Delhi, Kanpur and Chennai, IIIT Hyderabad, various NIT's and Regional & other Engineering Colleges. This event was useful in bringing attention of those involved in education on the issues if today's education system Workshop on value education via Jeevan Vidya at NIT Raipur in 2006: This workshop was organized at NIT Raipur and the opening address was made by the then President of India, Dr Abdul Kalam. A unique experiment was carried out for over 2 yrs, from 1996 to 1998 at the Adarsh Zilla Jail, Bilaspur, MP, that was notorious for housing some of the most hardened criminals. Over 15 workshops were conducted within the Jail premises with prisoners jailed for life or condemned to death for the most heinous crimes. The District Magistrate of Bilaspur at that time was someone associated with the JV system. The results were extremely encouraging. Those that went through the workshop were able to realize their mistakes and found it was possible to get answers to their questions. Their behavior changed for the better and it was found that even these so-called criminals did not really mean to do harm to others. Some of them even started conducting shivirs themselves inside the prison cells. A copy of their testimonials is available here. Website Last Updated: 22nd November 08
